Combined Adult Classes - September 15th and December 22nd
Ben Hayes, Kyle McKinney & Luke Barnett
Hali Room- 401
It has been suggested that the story Jesus tells in Luke 15 is the story of the Gospel, Scripture, and the world, and that if we sit with this story long enough, we learn to see the world, ourselves, and God differently. In this class, we will begin by looking at the text in its Lukan context, while considering scriptures that lie behind the story in Luke 15. We will then journey through Scripture, beginning in the Old Testament to see how this narrative is present throughout all of Scripture. By reflecting on the different ways we so often run from God, and how God continues to pursue us, the aim is that we will grow to become like, and see like the Father does.

The Bible makes more than a hundred references to the Holy Spirit, and Jesus says more about the Spirit than he does about the church, marriage, finances and the future. But do we really know the Spirit? Join us as we seek to understand the most overlooked aspect of our triune God, the Holy Spirit. We’ll unpack scripture and stories of who, what, how and several other questions regarding this mysterious part of the trinity. Have we unconsciously, unintentionally quenched the Spirit in our daily lives? Is there more we should know or experience in our lives if we are “walking in the Spirit?” We will ask often, What if…? Come join us for a transformational bible study experience!

Room 603
Our perception of the spiritual realm and how we may/may not interact with it significantly influences how we read/interpret scripture and how we view our role in God’s story. Throughout the Biblical narrative, we read of rebellion against God in both the heavenly and earthly realms, God’s recurring efforts to restore order and right relationship with humankind, and a persistent force in opposition to God’s efforts. But what is our role/place in this cosmic struggle? During this study, we will survey current worldviews of the spiritual realm, worldviews held during the times of the Biblical authors, and how those worldviews influence our understanding of the Biblical narrative. We will use this additional insight to inform our understanding of the spiritual being God created us to be and how we can more fully engage with God as we walk with Him and join in His efforts to restore order from chaos.
