Terry Hays

I was born in Portales, New Mexico, but have lived in Amarillo most of my life. I moved here at 6 years of age and stayed until I graduated from West Texas A&M (West Texas State University back then). I taught junior high math in Lubbock for 5+ years, met and married Tessie there before moving back in 1978. We have been members of Southwest since then.  We raised our two boys, Kevin and Keith here at Southwest. I have been blessed by Southwest in many ways over the years. I have also been blessed to serve as an elder since 2001.

Terry's Q&A...
What is an interesting fact about you?

I am pretty boring.

What are your hobbies?

What do you do for a living?

When I left teaching in Lubbock, I wanted to get into the business world. I ended up in IT, and began programming computers. I worked in the Technology world for the rest of my career, and retired at the end 2015 as the IT manager of a law firm.

If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

I really don’t desire to travel abroad, but if I had to say, it would be the Holy Land.

Favorite foods?

I mostly like all food. I might choose enchilada’s as my favorite food.

Favorite music?

I like Contemporary Christian, classic country, or 60-70’s rock. My favorite song might be Amazing Grace.

Favorite vacation?

My favorite vacation was probably a family trip Tessie and I took with our kids to New York City. We saw a play and also baseball games with the Yankees, Mets, and also the Baltimore Orioles. Great family fun.

Favorite Bible verse?

My favorite verse might be a prayer Paul had for the Ephesians in chapter 3 verses 16-21. It is my prayer for me as well as my brothers and sisters.

Mac or PC?

If you could share just one of Jesus' teachings with someone what would it be?

Matthew 22:37-40 - "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

What do you love about Southwest?

Southwest is my family. In many ways as close or closer than my physical family. They are a loving and giving congregation. They love God and want to serve him though many ways including benevolence, foreign missions, serving our neighbors and many other ways. They have accepted me as I am, faults and all, and they accept those who come as guests also.
